Ben's Trip: Saturday Part 2

On Saturday evening we met up with Melissa and Ben Burnham at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden for a flashlight tour. Even 6 1/2 months pregnant Melissa looked stylish as ever! We walked around and saw all of the different plant life of Arizona. We even got to see this gorgeous sunset!

On the tour there were a lot of different little stations where you could learn about the animals, plants, or native life. We got to see gardens, huts, small animals, and even got to make our own mesquite flour! The Ben's tested their masculinity by seeing who could make the best flour for their women. It was pretty amusing.

These are some of the huts that we saw along the way. We decided that this will be our first home once we get married! I think we could manage without all of the fancy things people like to have.

The end of our night was pretty epic. There were these giant palo verde beetles everywhere and I was freaking out about how big they were. We saw two start to mate and then the dug a hole to lay their eggs. All of the sudden another bettle came along and then there was a beetle fight to defend the eggs! It was so cool! As soon as the fight was over the monsoon rolled in and we had to hurry out of the garden to avoid getting pelted by cactus needles! We found refuge at Del Taco and the boys did all they could to try to make Melissa throw up since she is easily made nauseous. It was really scary driving in the storm but I am glad Ben got to see what an Arizona thunder storm is like and how it is far superior to Massachusetts storms!
